Even though bathrooms can be one of the smallest rooms in your house, when renovating they can be one of the most complex. If renovating your bathroom is on your list of things to do there are a number of things you need to consider…before starting!
Make sure you think ahead and plan for exactly what you want. Don’t rush the thought process….the decisions you make are sticking around for a while!
Consider the Basics
One of the most important things to consider is the existing layout of your bathroom…you may be restricted by what is already built…unless your starting from scratch, you may not have a blank canvas. This doesn’t mean what you want can’t happen, we may just need to slightly adjust the plan…it’s best to get an opinion form a licensed plumber to find out what is possible in your situation.
When shopping for fixtures (A toilet, vanity, shower head etc.) make sure the fixtures you desire will work in your bathroom. To ensure you are getting the most suitable parts for your bathroom talk with your plumber to make sure you don’t make any costly mistakes. For example, is the water pressure in your house suitable for that rain shower you desperately want?
On average, people only buy fixtures for bathrooms twice in a lifetime, so if you are trying to decide between two very similar fixtures, spending that little bit more could be worth it in the long run. Remember it’s not likely that you will be renovating your bathroom again any time soon…so take your time with the deciding on your fixtures…you’ll be living with them for a while!
When shopping for different fixtures don’t get swayed by the ‘shiny objects’…make sure you consider their practical use in your bathroom. There is no point getting a double basin vanity if you are going to have to jump over each other to use it!
